Do you know for sure that you are going to heaven?

While most people would say that one can never be sure that they are going to heaven when they die, the Bible actually says that you can:

“ These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life…”  I John 5:13

According to this verse the assurance of having eternal life is dependent on what one believes concerning Jesus Christ. Please understand that when we have faith in ourselves and our good works, we will never gain the assurance of salvation. But when our faith is in God’s provision for salvation, Jesus Christ, we can rest assured in the promise of God:

“ And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish…”  John 5:28

If you would like to have that assurance, please consider the Bible verses below in regards to the salvation that God has provided for man through Jesus Christ.

First the bad news:

“As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; “  Romans 3:10
“ For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin”   Ecclesiastes 7:20.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”   Romans 3:23
“But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.“   Isaiah 64:6
Not a pretty picture, is it? All of us stand before God as sinners. And because we are sinners, we deserve death, eternal death, forever separated from God suffering conscious torment in hell.
“ The soul that sinneth, it shall die…”   Ezekiel 18:20
“ But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2
“ For the wages of sin is death…”  Romans 6:23

There is good news:

God’s solution for man’s sin was to provide a substitute; God sent his own Son to die in our place, bearing our sins on the cross:
“ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”   Romans 5:6
“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”   Hebrews 2:9
“ Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree…” I Peter 2:24

His sacrifice on the cross took care of the sin problem entirely, satisfying God’s justice completely:
“ But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;”   Hebrews 10:12
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” I Peter 3:18:
“And He is the propitiation (satisfaction) for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world”   I John 2:2 .

And He did all this because of His great love for us:
“ For God so loved the world, that He gave hHs only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” I John 4:9-10

What does God ask from me?

Since the sin-debt-penalty was completely taken care of on the cross, the only thing God requires of us is our trust. God’s Word directs us to put our faith in… to believe in… the Lord Jesus Christ as our substitute and savior from sin:
“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”  Acts 16:31
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”  John 5:24
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”  John 3:36
“ For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”  Galatians 3:26

We are not to trust in ourselves or our good works; good works have never provided forgiveness for sins. God forgives us freely on the basis of the complete payment for sin made on the cross:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.' Ephesians 2:8-9
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Galatians 2:16
”But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” Romans 4:5

Are you resting in the promise of God?

You see, dear friend, God is offering to you the forgiveness of sins and the assurance of eternal life as a free gift. All you need to do to receive that gift is to reach out in simple child-like faith placing your trust in God’s promise to save and forgive you based upon Jesus’ complete sacrifice on the cross. Do you realize that just before Jesus died He cried; “It is finished” John 19:30, which means ‘paid in full’? If you would put your trust in the Lord Jesus today, you could have the assurance of knowing for sure that you are going to heaven. In order to have that assurance you must respond to God’s offer of salvation. It is received only one way; BY FAITH ALONE IN CHRIST ALONE. Will you trust Him as your savior today?
“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”  I John 5:11-13
“ Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?” John 11:25-26
